England is developing a new boat that is “an extremely expensive, state-of-the-art research vessel designed to explore the coldest regions on Earth.”

And they turned to the public to help name it.

Needless to say, the they had a bit of fun with it.

The leading name backed by popular opinion at the moment?

Yup, “Boaty McBoatface.”


The person who volunteered that name has apologized profusely since it has gained popularity.

I guess some people don’t like the idea of a multi-million dollar vessel having a fun name.

But it does get some attention.
